About usWe are a Japanese civil group, which is taking grass-roots actions to make realize the danger of uranium weapons and to appeal for an international treaty banning their production, stockpiling, testing, dealing, and use. Our organization is named Uranium Weapons Prohibition Treaty Realization Campaign, often called UWBAN.
What are our goals? Our goals are„To prohibit the production, stockpiling, testing, dealing, and use of Uranium Weapons and the destruction of all existing Uranium Weapons. „To demand medical and scientific investigation of contaminated areas, decontamination of uranium, and compensation for the victims from the nations who used Uranium Weapons. „To attain the above two goals, we en-ct the treaty banning the use of ura-nium for military purposes. How did UWBAN start?UWBAN started from the movement of the International Criminal Tribunal for Afghanistan(ICTA*), which was organized through the world from 2002, and in which Japan played a central role. This movement is for people to judge the war crimes committed against Afghanistan by the heads of state of America and its allies. In this court, the damages that uranium weapons had caused were taken up, which made us pay attention to their danger. After having heard the recommendation of the tribunal saying that realizing a treaty was one of effective measures to prohibit the uranium weapons, some of ICTA participants who were conscious of the issue formed UWBAN and started its activity in the end of February 2004.*Please see the site of ICTA for more information@at http://afghan-tribunal.3005.net/ English version is available at http://afghan-tribunal.3005.net/japanese/english-top.htm |
